Am I being treated unfairly?

Hi,

I needed some non biased advise on my current work situation which is making me miserable!

For background I am an Executive assistant working for a pretty big company for 3 years. Always having great feedback and no other issues.

Scenario - We’ve had multiple resignations within the team recently and my manager wanted me to do one of the more senior roles , I said I’d consider it but it would need to mean more money - she agreed and then when I agreed to take the role she then backtracked. Her reasoning being she doesn’t think ‘I’m the right personality’ (even though it was offered to me as being the right person for the role) and I was told someone else would be better but has made me continue to cover the role on top of my own role until they hire. we are currently in month two of covering and they haven’t met anyone ‘good enough’ to hire. I have raised that I’m struggling with capacity and they said they won’t remove any pressure.

I am overworked with a toddler and miserable with the way they are treating most people at work (hence the resignations) and I’m wondering if this is generally a cause to raise with Hr or someone more senior or if I should ride it out?

I'm an EA as well. I think in your position I would flag with my manager that I would like a discussion with them and HR. That might focus your manager's mind on resolving the situation.

It's totally unreasonable to suggest a promotion, get you to act up for no extra money, and then for you have to cover until they find someone 'better'.

I would approach my manager and HR about giving you a temporary uplift in pay until they find the right person and simultaneously start looking for a new job. You are clearly not valued

That's shitty. And thought my boss was a wanker

I think you should be offered at least a temporary pay uplift/formal secondment - and then have the chance to apply for the role on a permanent basis when it is advertised.

Your boss is a twat that doesn’t value you. I’d look for someone else to work for. Sounds like everyone is jumping ship. Don’t be their last remaining workhorse.
