Not a great idea, especially if one of the desirable/essentials in the person spec is "attention to detail". Can you get another copy of the form, or do it online?

pinkteddy · 18/01/2008 20:07

Pelvic if you can get hold of another copy that would be good and if you can do a copy in rough first, that way you know exactly how much text you can fit in, how small and neat you have to write etc! Is there any way you can directly type onto an online application - much neater. Good luck with it all - happy to help if I can!!

Beauregard · 18/01/2008 20:08

no not an option.

I am usually so organised but i am tired and the dd's were squealing and crying around me.

Oh dear, PFNM, I am sorry to sound discouraging. When's the deadline to hand it in? I will have my fingers crossed for you.

pinkteddy · 18/01/2008 20:10

I wouldn't worry about the caps. I would use the tippex then, better than crossing out - as long as tippex fairly new and not lumpy! Good luck

Beauregard · 18/01/2008 20:13

It isn't a job i really really want but it was a back up option if needed(care agency/calls)so was important.

It will look really knaff though

Thanks for the good wishes.

Hiya - I think they ask for caps because that way there is more chance they can read peoples writing ?? If your writing is neat enough for anyone to read, I wouldn't worry about the caps - and I agree with pinkteddy on the 'quality' of the tippex. I work in HR for a big Company. If what you've written is good, they'll overlook the things you have mentioned if they're any sort of organiation. Good luck.

Beauregard · 18/01/2008 21:54

I also need to put a note in to say that ia m unable to work certain hours(i was advised by woman on the phone to do so)

How should i word it?
Please

OK - you say you were advised to do this by someone at the organisation you're applying to ?? I would submit a covering letter with the application (which I'd always recommend anyway) and say something along the lines of 'As advised during my telephone conversation with x person on x date - I can confirm I would be available to work the following hours....' How do you feel about saying that ?

KatyMac · 18/01/2008 22:02

I would write "I am available to work Mon.....Tues...etc" rather than "I cannot work....."

Good luck

Beauregard · 18/01/2008 22:17

Thanks for replying

The job requires mornings sleep in and nights as it is shift work but the woman i spoke to said that despite my limitations i could still apply.

I can work afternoons evenings and weekends bank hols etc.

Is it a colour form or could you copy it, tipex out the errors then copy it again so you have a blank? Does that make sense?

I also agree you should put what you can do hours wise not say what you can't.

Beauregard · 18/01/2008 22:23

Dear sir/madam,

When i telephoned for the application pack i informed the lady i spoke with that although i am seeking permanent employment i have limitations due to childcare with working certain shifts.
She said that i should still apply but enclose a letter regarding my limitations.
I am available to work afternoons evenings and weekends bank hols etc.

Yours faithfully
pelvic

How does that sound honestly?

OP posts:
Beauregard · 18/01/2008 22:24

It is a colour form.

Pelvic, i'd try to sound more positive

dear sir/madam,
please find enclosed my application form for the post bla bla bla.

(as looby wrote
As advised during my telephone conversation with x person on x date - I can confirm I would be available to work afternoon, evenings and weekend shifts.

I look forward to meeting you to discuss the position in more detail,

yours faitfully

pelvic

With the form, I would do a simple line through for mistakes rather than tippex - I don't think it looks right. I would leave it in (clear) non-capitals writing as said before UNLESS you think there is going to be huge competition for the job.

You could always ring and get a new form sent to a different address - friend/mum etc(if they would even remember)

Beauregard · 18/01/2008 22:40

Dear sir/madam

As advised by the lady i spoke with when requesting the application pack i am enclosing this cover letter regarding my availability.
Although i am looking for a permanent position i have limitations with certain shifts due to childcare restrictions.
I am available for afternoons, evenings and weekends.

Yours sincerely

pelvic

umlellala-Thanks i will do that.

With regard to my lack of capitals ,my writing is clear so i pray that will be good enough.

Looby34 · 19/01/2008 08:29

Pelvic - not sure if you crossed posts with umlellala but don't used the word limitations because it sounds negative. I think the fact that you say you can work afternoons evenings weekends and bank holidays is really positive and may set you apart from others. I would go with the wording umlellala has suggested. You don't even need to mention that it is due to childcare. Much as some Companies have family friendly policies (like the one I work for thank God) - you don't know who will be doing the initial application screen and whether they personally will be sympathetic to childcare needs - so I wouldn't mention it. You've been up front about what you can do - and that is sufficient. You can always tell them if they ask at interview (sending you positive vibes).....

Beauregard · 19/01/2008 17:12

Thanks to everyone on here that helped me once again ,i am very grateful to you all.

Especially Pinkteddy as she always bails me out

Looby34-Only just seen your post but i didn't put limitations i don't think.....oh well i can't remember ,lol.

Too late to turn back anyway.
The hunt goes on................

Currently addicted to MN so feel free to ask for more advice on this kind of stuff - including interview preparation. Good luck.
