I have been working but I got my last job on a casual basis without interview/application and it just became permanent over time. I'm just looking for a bit of advice on the best way to go about applications/CV as I am so out of practice. I'm fed up in current role and stuck wfh now, need a change.Thanks.

Employment agencies are still around. Let's just say they haven't changed !

Upload your c.v. to a few on-line job vacancy sites e.g. Indeed, CV Library, CV Warehouse etc etc

Your c.v. will get picked up by an agency/agencies who will contact you with relevant vacancies.

I've been doing that for the last few years.

I did a temp wfh role for a few months ending on 31st May. I started a new temp role from an agency four weeks later which I chose to end because of a personality clash with the manager.

I have a skills based cv. It places an emphasis on your transferable skills, rather than your work history

LinkedIn

Everyone I know uses it and recommends it for finding new roles.

I'm resistant to use it though as I don't want another social media presence.

Depends on the sector really.....

What sort of a job are you looking for?

Yodaisawally · 20/07/2022 12:17

Depends wha you're looking for but LinkedIn

I wouldn't have a clue but I know someone who used our local council's employment specialists. Can you check if yours offers this service? They helped him with CV's, finding jobs to apply for, iterview prep. It's an amazing service. I don't know how one qualifies for it but they may be able to point you inthe right direction if you don't qualify for it.

That's why I'm not that interested in using it. IMO it's Facebook for the business community.

And if you’re going to use one of the two, LinkedIn is the far more useful.

Not that I fully agree with your statement in the first place, but there you go.

Thanks everyone, I'll take a look at all these and weigh up. I suppose my dream job would be something to do with craft, using it as a therapy but at 56 feel I'm too old for a big retrain so would want something not so 'full on' if that makes sense. I worked as NHS critical care nurse for 18 years but l retired from nursing 15 years ago and since administered in a college so I've certainly had a varied career. Don't know if it's my age but just feel low on confidence about changing jobs but feel I want something I enjoy more.
