Hi all, wondering if you can help me. I work as a healthcare assistant at a local hospital and have had recently had to have 3 days off work due to sickness, only had 2 other instances off due to illness in the year. Also I am taking a day annual leave and have been put down for a study day. Am I thinking that full pay would be given in all circumstances.

Thanks as I don't really understand as my manger is not being helpful

Your entitlement to full sick pay depends on your length of service. Have a look at the Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions handbook. Three episodes of sickness is a lot in a year.

It’s really not a lot considering what they are up against but 3 instances in 6 months is usually a trigger for a discussion with line manager just to check whether you need support etc.

What has your manager said about pay?

PrivateHall · 15/07/2022 18:50

I work in the NHS and I would consider 3 sicknesses in a year a lot - it would trigger a review in my trust. I don't really understand what you are asking though, you cannot use AL or study days to cover sickness!

@PrivateHall 3 in 6 months is the trigger for a discussion not a year.

How long have you been there? Have you been invited for a formal/informal interview or had a sickness review?

I've had 3 sicknesses in the space of 6 months which should've been classed as only 2, I see my manager every month to see if I need support, when I first started at my Trust we got told what sickness is like we have 30 days full sick pay in one year, after that it's 30 half pay and then nothing till the year ends.

Sick pay depends on your length of service.

You may be better to just check your contract and speak to HR or check the sickness policy for your trust.
