If you've done it, why do you need a company? There is absolutely no need to have someone do anything, and NO reason to pay for it. As a recruiter - and to be fair we don't even accept CVs - I can tell you that I care nothing for fancy presentation, and everything for what skills and experience you offer me.

And really meaning this kindly, but acceptable English is also critical. It doesn't have to be a literary masterpiece but " I have written out a CV and tidied it up...". If I have one tip to share about applications, it's read them three times. The odd typo - fine. Some occasional lapses in language - ok. But you wouldn't believe the number of scruffy and illiterate applications I read, many with "text speak" in them.

I'm used to reading/writing CVs and it's amazing how many people really don't have a clue. If you don't feel confident, do ask a friend with good English skills. There are plenty of templates in Google. In the roles I recruit for, good writing skills are important, so CVs with bad grammar or bad spelling go straight in the bin

Ask a friend (who is good at getting jobs) to look at it for you. I’ve redone several friends’ CVs which got them over the ‘hurdle’ of landing interviews at various prestigious companies.

If you do this, take into account it will probably take 4-6 hours for someone to do a really good job: I think it’s worth it though

You need to tailor your CV for every role you apply for. It’s not a question of getting one CV done.

I do this freelance. I'm very good. I will charge a tenner per CV via paypal.

A tenner?? How long are you spending to charge so little?!

There is an American blog called Askamanager which has a v helpful section with advice on CVs (resumes in American). Google it and follow what she recommends.

Yowsers!

I was thinking about doing this as a sideline given that I’ve been v successful getting friends jobs - but I’d probably charge £50-£200 depending on how much time I think it would take..

You need to tailor your CV for every role you apply for. It’s not a question of getting one CV done.

Agree with this: use the keywords in the job spec to tailor your CV, esp any ‘mission statement’ you put

And then use the job spec to find specific achievements in your career (esp most recent job) that demonstrate your skills/value add

A cover letter is also good for pulling it all together: good luck!

I have paid a company to do Mine. They were called cv guru. they did a fairly good job. I’d give it 85%.
i edited it myself and created a master. I then tweaked the master depending on the role.

Did you go to Uni? If so, the careers service will probably help. At the uni where I work they help any student or alumni, regardless of when the alumni graduated. They're pretty good for interview practice too.

Recommend:

  1. tweaking CV for every role concentrating on what is relevant to the particular role (get it down to 1 side A4 if you can!)
  2. preparing 1 side A4 summary for every job, listing - in note form - your relevant skills v each criterion on the job description
  3. adding punchy covering letter (1 side A4 only!) saying why you want the job & the most relevant skills can offer the company.
Yes it can take 4 - 6 hours per job application unless you’re applying for very similar jobs. It works for me! Good luck!

Also proof read - so you don’t send out an application with a missing word!

No need to pay. There's lots of tips and a template here.
