The job I want is being advertised, do I register my interest even though its not worth me applying (cryptic title I know)

Ok am a 3rd yr nursing student, will be registered to work in September this year (hopefully).
The job I want is being advertised on the internet, for newly qualified or those about to qualify.

Now I know strictly speaking I fall into neither category but we have been told to apply in April/May time as the process is so long.

The ward manager knows me as a student and my mentor has told her of my intention to return to work there, and has given me a good reference. He said a few days ago I shoulf write to her and express my interest formally.

Just wondering if I should contact her by phone (the application states any queries to telephone her) or to write. Or are both totally inappropriate at this stage?

I would put it in writing.

you are probably a little early - but I would write to the charge nurse , let her know when you are due to qualify and ask her/him if she would keep you in mind for future opportunities that may arise.

Well , you could hand deliver your letter to the ward, when the c/n will be on - then she can put a face to the name. No harm - it will show that you are keen.

thats a good idea fruitymum. I think I will speak to my mentor again (hes now a facebook buddy) and find out when sister is working next week and if he's on too he can back me up cos I'll be scared

tbh you should apply now. I've interviewed and employed nurses in your situation. Its also good interview practice.

infact two years ago one student nurse from her cohort applied in jan when the advert went out, got the post. when april came round and the rest of her cohort got applying the jobs on this particular ward had all gone (it is much desired option)

I know where all my nurses are likely to be come september so forward planning. I've got one going off on mat leave and another going back to uni, so I already know I need 2 full time posts come july/august time - if i can recruit now, its going to save me money. its a risk i would take.

tbh crb checks take so long it may be sept before successful applicant can start anyway. It took 4-5 months for employee on our ward to start a new job from getting it.
