Anyone a clinical coder?

My local hospital keeps advertising vacancies for clinical coders, including a band 4 training post - have to take the exam within 12 months. I keep looking at it, although I don’t really want to work full time right now I’m thinking maybe as they keep advertising it they will be willing to consider part time options…

anyway has anyone got an experience of this role?

Usually there is a course and exam before the big NCCQ exam that is completed during full time hours. Maybe give them a ring to check as each hospital varies slightly.

Yeah, I actually emailed them during a previous advertisement of the role & they said they were looking for as close to full time hours as possible. My ideal would be 30hrs a week but could probably offer 34hrs.

do you have experience of the role? Interested in hearing about it.

Morning @DistrictCommissioner A fair bit via the team I work in interacting with them. What would you like to know?

If they have advertised 3 times previously I would definitely apply and offer 30 hours.

I haven't been a clinical coder but did work alongside the team in a previous job

Hi I am a clinical coder, I started off as the clerical in the department, collecting the notes etc to be coded, but applied for the coding job when it came up. I requested to only work 30 hours and there were definitely other trainees on part time hours. However I guess it would be totally down to whether it would work for them.

I definitely wasn't ready to take my exam after 12 months, but it took 6 months to get me on a standards course so that didn't help. I think I took my exam after 2 years and thankfully passed, it's an interesting job and I enjoy it!! I now work for a hospital down in Somerset (I live in yorkshire) so fully remote, which I love.
