Handing in notice - what’s the right way to do it?

I’ve been in this new job for six weeks and I’ve dreaded everyday. I have had nightmares about the place and often cry about the job. It isn’t anything like I expected, my manager isn’t supportive and my colleague training me treats me like a child. I decided to take the plunge and quit without another job lined up as DH said we can manage as we have no mortgage or children.

What’s the best way to hand in my notice? Should I chat with my manager first then hand it in or should I just send it via email? DH says give two weeks as they are short staffed but my contract says one week’s notice is sufficient?

Thanks

Write out your notice and hand it to your manager. Be as polite as possible.

Write a letter thanking them for the opportunity but saying that the role is not for you. You hereby give them one weeks notice. Your last day will be X.

then you ask them for a quick chat, and you hand it to them while repeating the contents in conversation.

And don’t get drawn I to why you are leaving. To not complaint about anything at the company - just say you arent suited to staying. The role is just not for you and you think it best to move on (don’t say where to). You wish them all the best.

Dear Manager

I would like to thank you for the opportunity to work for x company, however, I feel it is now time to move on.

Please take this letter as 1 week's notice to terminate my employment.

I would be grateful if you could put in place the appropriate steps to facilitate my departure.

Kind regards....

Don't give them two weeks - they asked for one so give them one.

I'd probably do it by email, and sign off sick for a week.

Don't say this - it's only been 6 weeks.

Along the lines of thanks for the opportunity to work at x but the role is not for you.
Your last day will be x.

It can be so simple with a couple of lines then ask for a chat if you want.

Only a week though as you haven't been there long.

Thanks all. I will give one week’s notice. Can’t wait to leave.

How did it go? Have you managed to find another job?
