Better to use older, more relevant experience or more recent, less relevant experience on a job application?

Always struggle with this because the job that I've been in for 10 years is less skilled than the jobs that I had 10 and 12 years ago.

At the moment, I'm trying to evidence that I'm numerate. I am. I'm very good with numbers and would absolutely be able to do this job really well. But numeracy isn't really relevant to my current job. I don't know what's better out of talking about the very number heavy job that I did ten years ago or taking the most numerate part of my current job and trying to make it sound more relevant than it is.

At what point does an employer go 'they really still think that's relevant/they haven't forgotten that skill after X years?'?

If numeracy was a relevant skill - you can highlight in your covering letter as something you have done and enjoy and would like to do more of - we would test for your numerical ability - even if you had a numerical degree.
