USBORNE BOOKS AT HOME - LET'S SHARE TIPS

Hello Everyone

I have been thinking about setting up my own home business for quite a long time now, but had not found anything attractive until I stumbled across Usborne Books. So I am taking the plunge and posting my application form and joining fee today !

I love books and so does my son (3.5 years old) and we are both very chirpy characters who like to meet new people, so I thought this might be the ideal way to get a taste of running my own business. I am hoping to learn lots of things about running a business from home

Does anyone else on mumsnet do this and do you fancy using this thread as an exchange of ideas/tips to help us all run an effective book selling business ?

I thought as we are all busy mums, we could help each other out with tips on where to sell, how to approach venues where the books might sell, etc, anything at all that would help all of us make good money I think it is always easier to share information rather than struggle for months and then realise we are barking up the wrong tree, as it were !

If anyone is interested, let's do it.

By the way, I am new to mumsnet, only joined a few weeks ago. I have been a member of netmums for ages, but only heard about mumsnet from a friend recently. So happy to have found you all !!

Thanks for that!
With regards to Nurseries..... how would that work? When could i catch the parents, don't wanna seem as though i'm hassling them.

Also do you leave your catalogues some places for people to look at?

My house is quite small but i know a lot of people from various groups. Would holding a party at a neutral place be good? Maybe supply coffee or something? That way people would know that i'm up and running, etc

I am having a get together next monday with a few fellow mummy friends so hopefully that will generate some sales.

Hi There!
Sorry Ive not replied before!! I have real trouble getting on here sometimes - no other site, just this one!

Has your upline been in touch hun? He/she should be helping to get you going and supporting you and should offer you info etc to answer these questions.
I'll help anyway lol but just so you know thats what your upline should be doing so don't worry about asking them etc.

Nurseries can work in different ways. I have sold at their open evenings, have given home/school leaflets for people to order from and you can do sponsored reads (have you had the "Ready, Steady.....Read" info from your upline or do you want me to email it?), or to do a book sale, perhaps at the end of the day or throughout the day - different nurseries work differently.

Ring EVERYONE lol. nurseries, toddler groups, classes like Sing and Sign and Tumbletots, toy libaries, soft play centres etc. There are some great websites to help you find places - one is [[http://www.whatson4littleones.co.uk}} .

When I rand anywhere to start with I wrote a "script" lol to get me started!
It was something like "Hi my name is Nicki and I'm your local independant usborne books organiser. I was wondering if it was possible to come a do a bookstall there one day" And explain about how they can get up to £20% in free books, more if its a place that does a sponsored read etc (up to 60%. If they dont know why usborne is say "Usborne have over 1500 fiction and non-fiction titles for ages 0-16yrs. they are fantastic books and usborne has been going for over 30yrs now". Something like that.

The July offer is............................................................
Starting from 9am on Thursday 3rd July at the ludicrously low price of JUST £5, the Summer Starter kit price will rise by £5 each week throughout the whole of July and August:

£10 from Monday 14th July
£15 from Monday 21st July
£20 from Monday 28th July
£25 from Monday 4th August
£30 from Monday 11th August
£35 from Monday 18th August
£38 from Tuesday 26th August until the end of August.

The kit has everything a bright new recruit needs - the best range of titles from popular Usborne series, 2008 catalogues and vital business stationery.

How fab is that! Lol! I have a couple of people ready to join up who have been waiting for a decent offer so its a good month for me! How is everyone else doing?
