Whats your WFH job title?

I'm wondering if you can share your jobs titles or any you may know that are work from home (employed).
I'm looking for a new job/career and ready to up skill for it if required but need some inspiration on what types of jobs are out there for working from home.

My story/reason for asking if it's relevant....
I'm having a really challenging time trying to get back to work properly.
I have two small kids (reception & nursery age) currently work as a bank HCA and don't really like it or the unguaranteed shifts.

Problem I have is within my town (SW) there isn't much in sense of job opportunities and public transport links to the city aren't great, commute takes too long approx 1.45-2hrs each way. Moving house isn't an option for several years and certainly not until I'm working a proper wage.

I've been looking at jobs for months and feel my best bet will be to WFH as then I can use breakfast/after school clubs etc and not be late for work/pick ups.

@BJBeGone that would have been my next thread title of I didn't get any replies 😂😂

@Covidagainandagain ahh I see what you mean, would be an idea to go through the old CV and refresh my mind of the previous responsibilities I've had and what transferable skills I do already have. I feel a bit in a rut where I have nothing but I know I'm actually an intelligent, organised logically person I just feel a bit lost.

@FredaFox I get that, I guess that's why I was looking to upskill so I'm not completely clueless. But hybrid might be an option. Would be easier to try sort child care for a day a week for me to commute, I hope.

This might not be helpful but just in the short-term have you thought about trying to get bank admin work if you’re not enjoying your HCA role? It sounds like you’re already with a local employer and while you’re on a skilling-up journey (into data or ICT or whatever), getting into admin might be a helpful tiny sideways or slightly upwards step.

I'm a Technology Delivery Lead and my job is exclusively wfh. I do go into the office for occasional meetings but the technology team and business stakeholders are in different locations and mostly remote so MS Teams is our saviour

I keep coming back to tech but I don't think I'm smart enough

Don't ever say that again. There are a range of roles in tech that require different ranges of skills, knowledge and experience.

I’m a housing officer for a housing association. I work from home 2-3 days a week and the other couple of days on schemes. I’ve alwAys been in housing and have had fully office based, fully remote and a combo. It does seem to be the way the industry is going though, as more and more offices are shutting so more and more working from home. You need customer service, good literacy, empathy and a knowledge of housing law. Have a look at a CIH qualification, you can do it remotely and would stand you in good stead. Good luck, hope you find what you’re after.

I work from home 2 days and office 3. I'm a collections specialist (credit controller).

Senior clinical coder (NHS) I started off on site but then applied for a fully remote position. I believe it's in my contract that I never have to go on site, which would be difficult as I live in Yorkshire and the hospital I work for is down devon/Somerset way.

If this is your first role back from time out wfh and you want to develop yourself into a role wfh isn't a great solution.
My issue with wfh is new starters just don't get the support they need. People learn from their peers and not being in the office where you can ask questions readily makes a huge impact.
I know many companies are more hybrid that fully wfh so could you manage maybe 1 day a week in the office?

We have moved back to a full-time office - and mostly due to the poor performance of our junior staff who are not developing quickly enough. On-the-job training is just too challenging remotely - it's an annoying outcome for us too because the office space is a significant cost.

Second level Network Service Analyst. I monitor client's networks and respond to emails regarding network connectivity problems. If it is an issue which cannot be fixed remotely I call the on call engineer to attend the site.

I do need to be available 8 to 8 but realistically no-one would notice if I popped to the shop for 10 minutes and my breaks are flexible. I could arrange them around school drop off/pick up times if I needed to.

CCNA or CompTia Network + are good courses to start with if it's something you'd be interested in getting into.

"Field based roles" also have a significant WFH component sometimes
I'm a marketing manager and at home 2-3 days per week on average

Oldlearner · 11/07/2022 08:52

Thank you everyone you've given me lots to consider.
I would to build a career but due to location and commute times it will be difficult to be in office every day. You've given me lots to look into.

Interestingly I have just secured a role at Virgin Money and they are 100% WFH (unless you are in branch staff) They are having a massive recruitment drive at the moment and encourage people having career changes etc.
Might be worth a look

Oldlearner · 16/07/2022 17:06

@Monkeybutt1 oh that's interesting i will have a look. Is the hours etc good?
