Need a motivational speaker for a staff conference

I have been tasked to arrange this, the theme is team building and needs to include something that gets people moving around a little (although not much space) as it’s an after lunch 2 hr slot, any ideas or recommendations- I want them to be memorable and fun but also inspiring for a mixture of teams merging into one. thanks

We had a guy called Ant from a company called the brain whisperer. He's all about how thinking positive reaps good rewards. I found him brilliant, all the motivation without all the American bollocks

Have a look at laughing yoga. We had someone come in to do this with us a few years ago and it was hilarious.

I don't know if this is who we used, but

There are companies who arrange speakers - Google "speaker bureau London"

Even if you don't book through them you can find some ideas on their website

We just had Jon Brockelmann-Evans as a key note speaker at a conference. He was really good.

Startuplife · 24/06/2022 15:13

The best keynote I’ve seen was Laura Penhaul who headed up the all female team who spent 9 months rowing across the Pacific Ocean.

I’m not sure what she charges but the documentary they made “Losing sight of shore” is well worth a watch.

We recently used The SUMO Guy
He was great

Chillinvibes · 27/06/2022 21:22

Thanks for all the suggestions I’ve contacted a few of them already

Please don't do this, we did it about 7 years ago and people still talk about how awful and cringy it was. Extroverts may enjoy it, but judging on our place, anyone with even the slightest hint of an introversion preference will absolutely detest every second of it

Binglebong · 27/06/2022 21:50

Richard Gerver is one of my absolute favourites and really good at personalising to what you need. We used him for a business event so nothing to so with schools.

Also one of the nicest speakers I've ever dealt with!

We all flipping loved the laughing yoga! And I wouldn't say we are a team of extroverts at all. There were around 150 of us. We talked about it for weeks afterwards. I still make myself laugh sometimes just my making myself laugh.

If it's a team-building theme and you're bringing different teams together, I'd personally look for someone with a story about resilience, collaboration and adapting to change rather than a traditional corporate trainer.

I've come across a few speakers through the Motivational Speakers Agency who seem like they'd fit that brief. Jo Salter has a fascinating background as the RAF's first female fast jet pilot and speaks a lot about teamwork and performing under pressure. Derek Redmond is always memorable because of his story of overcoming adversity and perseverance. Neil Back brings a strong perspective on teamwork and high performance from elite sport, while Lauren Paton offers a really engaging and relatable take on resilience and mental wellbeing.

Whichever speaker you choose, I'd make sure they can tailor their session to the fact that you're merging teams. In my experience, that's what people remember afterwards. A speaker who can get people talking to each other and thinking differently about working together will probably have a bigger impact than someone who simply delivers an inspirational talk.
