What else could I do?

So I am bored with life in general and feel that I need to change some things which includes my job, however, I am not qualified for anything and need to earn at least £29K to afford to live (I am the only breadwinner in the family, husband is retired and now technically disabled so cannot work).

What sort of roles are out there that I could do with the following skills/interests:

  1. Great admin and problem solving
  2. Good communicator
  3. Currently working in Adult Social Care
  4. Love people facing roles but any type of contact is good too
  5. I MUST earn at least £29K - tried a job on less and ended up in debt
  6. Flexible working but can also go into an office if needed
  7. Main areas of work have been Mental Health, Health, HR, Hospital
  8. I am 55 yrs old and know that could go against me (but shouldn't!)
If anyone has some ideas I'd be very grateful. I have set up searches on job sites but nothing suitable has come up yet. I would love to work for a charity as I get a lot out of seeing things making a positive change for people - again these jobs tend to start at about £24K so I cannot afford to drop.

Thanks in advance!

If you're 55, then you have another 12 working years ahead of you before you reach state pension age, and who among the younger generation would stay in a job that long these days? Employers know that, so I think you age will be no barrier at all.

Prison service? Though I dont know how much they pay nowadays.

I guess 30k is about 5k over the average admin salary? So you will either have to go into a higher paying sector (private healthcare, legal, financial, tech) or land a more senior admin role..

What I would do to start is go and see as many recruitment agencies as you can, they can be a bit shit, but they should certainly be able to tell you where their shortages are, and what pays what. Also do a bit of research, the govt publishes stats on shortages.

If you are earning that now then it should e achievable, I don’t think she will be a barrier in most cases.

Also, once you have seen the recruitment agencies and got CV advice (ask them) then I would approach the HR depts direct of any big corporations near you, for HR or any other jobs.

I think you have to be active about it.
