Person I hired and trained promoted above me whilst on maternity leave

Hello!
I have worked in the same job since 2016, Im bar supervisor but in charge of recruitment and interviews and hiring and training new people. In 2020 I hired a new person to a similar level than me that I didn't want to hire but the manager did. She has since been so lazy and barely works, takes a cigarette break every half hour, refuses to job all of our simple job roles, like running food. She sleeps on the job (I wish I was joking) and when I went on mat leave in 2021 the assistant manager left and she got offered the job without me even being acknowledged.

I came back to work and she requested the same shifts as me and let's me know she's above me. But she doesn't do work she lays around and just bosses people about. I'm considered similar level but still below her. Many people have complained but the manager says I should have got the job but she didn't think I'd ever come back full time so never got offered.

I complained to her about her behaviour and she came down the watch so the assistant manager worked, so she said she couldn't do anything and it was down to me to talk to her and guide her. And the assistant manager went back to laying down in the office and shout at kitchen staff to run their own food as she was tired. Kitchen staff also complained but we have been told to deal with it ourselves.

I want to know how I have a leg to stand on that I should have got promoted when I didn't. I want a new job so badly but I'm given my set shifts that work so well with my life and little ones! But I'm so depressed working there and the assistant manager asked to get moved into my shifts and makes a point that she's now above me and I have to do what she says.

Please just any advice and help... feel so trapped

This is likely to be discrimination. Contact ACAS for advice.

I'm not sure if they could do anything while that person is in the role but look up pregnant then screwed. My friend learned a lot that she used when she was made redundant on maternity leave
