Anyone else feeling forced to look for a new job due to cost of living?

I went back to work earlier this year after maternity leave. I have great benefits and flexibility but there’s no chance to progress. My husband earns well but now with the cost of nursery I feel like I have no choice but to apply for jobs with a higher salary.

North west but single parent with debts (taken on in a two wage home- then he left) and childcare to pay for.

Ah, that’s tough. Childcare costs are a scandal in this country.

I have a couple of interviews next week. I feel so sad about the thought of leaving my current job but I need to earn more

@Eliveonline I have the exact same situation. I've just recently started a new job which I like, but I LOVED my previous job and felt so sad to leave. The new job was a 70% salary increase so I absolutely couldn't have turned it down. But my heart was in my old job. It's a hard pill to swallow that i felt I just couldn't not take it.

I handed my notice in a few weeks ago. I'm a teacher and can no longer afford to stay in London. I'm a single parent and my salary doesn't stretch far enough. I already share a bedroom with DS, shop in charity shops and am frugal when food shopping.
My NI contributions went up at the same time as my landlord increased the rent. Combine that with rising bills and I don't have enough coming in.
Haven't found another job yet, am moving in with some family members over the summer and if I can't find a teaching post will see what else I can get.
It's utterly depressing!

Depending what you teach some private school include a house!

That’s really hard. It’s so lovely when we love our jobs but I can see you have to follow the money.

Just about to go back after maternity and will be working the time period required so as not to have to pay maternity pay back and then I'll be looking for something else as my current job is 20 miles away as I live rurally and the fuel increase is going to cripple me. I currently work for police in a role I really enjoy but I'm going to have to look for something retail or hospitality (that's what's available locally) on a lower salary but closer to home so as to avoid fuel costs.

Well its not much as I'm part time but work emailed last night with a course I can do online to up my wages by 50p an hour. I am on min wage at the moment. I'll still be looking for something else before the winter but it's a bit of a boost in the meantime.
