Staff leaving means pressure on those left

Anyone else's work place struggling with staff leaving? We seek to have an exodus due to people seeking higher salaries. Our company is about average in terms of pay and I can see why they are reluctant to give in to every demand for a pay rise as this would lead to demands across the board. However it then means increasing pressure and workload on those of us remaining which in turn causes people to leave. Not sure what the answer is but it is certainly difficult times for businesses, employers and staff.

Absolutely agree op. I work in the care industry and last year I ended up not seeing my family for 3 months because I had to live with a client who had been abandoned by their family when their carers had quit. I'm disabled too so it was a ridiculous situation but nobody is taking the jobs where we are (South Wales).

I think this is happening a lot in many businesses now, as the pandemic has made people realise life is too short to put up with low job satisfaction.

At my last place, the staff turnover was high, resulting in more pressure for existing staff, and then those leaving too. It's a vicious cycle. Not sure what the solution is. For that company at least, they've got a crisis on their hands as the way they operate is fairly niche so it's not like it's easy to replace people either.

A lot of times though, it all stems down to management not appreciating staff. I'm sure that people would be more likely to stay on at companies if they are being treated well. I would certainly be happier on a lower pay if I was really enjoying my work environment.

I'm in a similar situation in my work place and it's feeling more and more overwhelming and hopeless.

I don't know what the answer is but it's reaching crisis point.

I agree it is a crisis glad I am not alone in feeling overwhelmed. I feel that our company do value staff but with lots of employers desperate for staff they are in difficult situation when people are tempted by higher wages and with costs soaring who can blame them.

I'm in the Civil Service and we are really struggling to recruit at the moment, we aren't the highest paid department which doesn't help.

My workplace is facing similar pressures but....I've joined the caravan and left for greener pastures. My workplace was never great though tbh. The wages are stagnant, the workload ridiculous. Maybe it's good overall - people don't want poor pay, poor working conditions, lack of vacation and benefits and why should they? Maybe it will necessitate positive change.

For those left behind though it is pants OP I empathize. Employees should be asking curious questions about what is being done to make the environment more attractive for hiring and retention.

Same, it's been hard to attract anyone because private sector pay is so much better. And now with the announcement of reducing the workforce it's going to be so much harder!
