Help…new job problems

I need some advice please…I’ve been in my current role a matter of weeks which I’m not enjoying at all. There’s been barely any support, the people aren’t that friendly, my manager just fires things at me 100mph & expects I should know what I’m doing after literally no induction or training then dashes off. I can ever pin her down as she’s always extremely ‘busy’ & everyone else never seems to have time. Another thing which i’m struggling with is I’m sat in a box room with no window so I have very little human contact daily…which is not me as I’m such a peoples person. Maybe I’m just being precious but I’m just not feeling it at all & I’m so unmotivated which I shouldn’t be feeling this early on in a job.

I know people say you need to give it time etc. But I know when I’m not happy.

Someone I know knows someone that works at this company & has told me it has a very high turnover of staff (which I didn’t know before I started) which now concerns me.

Please tell me what you would do?

Honestly I would just leave. Find something else before the end of your probation as you will likely have a shorter probation period..

I have done this once before - it just wasn't right for me. Never regretted it.

Thanks @TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo thats what I think I’m going to do. Just hope it doesn’t put employers off that I’ve only been there a few weeks!

If you've only been there a few weeks, just don't put it on your CV.

Tinks15 · 18/06/2022 07:42

@daretodenim i did think that but what about when it comes to an application form? Surely I need to put it on there?

You can list it but you really don't have to, and I wouldn't. My training is employment law and imho there's little cost these days for this kind of thing. Just describe the windowless room and be confident about it having been your decision, future employers have likely been there.

I would leave. You are likely still on your probation period so you only have to give them a week's notice.

If you really need the money start job hunting again and even do that when you are at work if you can...

This is not going to get any better.

You don't need to list the role in your CV/application form either. I left one job within the probation period because I had major concerns about how the organisation, a health charity, operated from an ethical and health and safety point of view. I don't put that job in my CV because I don't want to be associated with them and their practices in any way! It has never been an issue when applying for roles since.

You don't need to. I have wiped it from my cv and most of it from my memory thank goodness!

I just say I was taking a short break to spend time with my DC.

I would just leave too. My husband is in a similar position. He is early 40's and had been at his last job for 10 years and even longer at job before that and he worries about his CV but I think it will be fine
He's not been given any induction or training. People are unfriendly and he has already been told off for being too helpful! Lots of politics and people seem to go slow to point prove and play mind games
He just isn't going to fit in there. He's a hard worker and likes to do the best job possible and it just won't go down well so he needs to move on for his own confidence and sanity!

Wondering if anyone has any advice, I was made redundant from the NHS in 2021 after 20 years and have recently got another job within the NHS at a different Trust. Will I be entitled to an higher annual leave entitlement because of my reckonable service or do this not count because of redundancy?

Boohoo77 · 19/06/2022 21:27

Sorry about the above post on your thread I’m new! I’ve made a new thread now 🤞🏻
However I also started a job… stayed for about 3 days and knew it wasn’t for me, life is too short and something else will turn up. Don’t let it erode away at ur self confidence r better than that.
I haven’t mentioned it to my new job. I’m hoping it just won’t come up. 🫣

I was in a job like this... and foolishly stayed 15 months. Looking back, I can't quite work out why. It ended up really affecting my mental health, and it took a while to build my confidence back up. I now have a better job that I really enjoy. I'd say jump now!

TortolaParadise · 04/04/2023 06:51

I agree. Move on.

ParkrunPlodder · 04/04/2023 07:20

I started looking for a new job within 2 weeks of starting a job once. Recruitment agencies weee very sympathetic- said it wasn’t uncommon! The job wasn’t awful so I stayed till I got another one but if it was unbearable, I think I would have resigned and done temping agency work assuming you’ve got relevant skills and can risk the odd day not working.

weathervane1 · 04/04/2023 07:42

Personally would briefly mention it on an application form and perhaps word it as a temporary or short-term job whilst you were looking for your idea role. It might look odd if you didn't when your new employer gets a copy of your most recent P45 and it's listed on there.
