What are my rights ? (salary)

Hello !

I just wanted some advice where possible. I've recently moved into a seconded role. During this time, the company have had a cost of living % pay rise and a review of salary in the previous role (this was 9 weeks of me leaving). I have been told that I will not be liable for the % increase because I've moved roles (on a 12 month secondment) and there is also a possibility that I will not receive the increase when I come back due to 'budget issues' they didn't second my role out but instead have said they will wait for me to return. I received a small wage increase when I moved my role but this will be for 12 months only. When I go back, I will be on significantly less than the rest of my team. What rights do I have here ?

Thankyou ! I think I will do this. I've asked for my employee relations team to look into it confidentially so I know my rights, but I shall speak with them in the meantime.

Had my role move been permanent I would understand that I wouldn't be eligible for the %increase, but I haven't. When I asked them tongue in cheek they said that my manager will have to make a fair adjustment to my wage based off the increase but that it would come out of the teams direct budget and not overall like the company have done for all other employees- this then I would assume leaves less room for the further wage increase (market research to increase salary). If I had of known that I wouldn't be able to get a company wide pay rise because I was in secondment I may not have even taken the role. It's almost a little like punishment for loyally staying with them !!

Interested to know the outcome of this. I'm currently seconded to a role above my normal grade until October and will receive the salary for this grade during this time. I will then return to my normal role but there is a pay increase currently being negotiated which will be backdated to April and I have no idea how this will be calculated/applied when I move back to my old role.

I will keep you in the loop! I have seen a post talking legally about secondment and a salary increase, and it implied that the employer you are seconded out from is still liable for any ongoing salary increase while not in the role. When I spoke to my employee relations advisor she said it was a very grey area and that I should be as transparent as possible. Currently, my old role is being paid more than my current role, so I should in theory be able to step straight back into old role and give notice in secondment to be eligible for the pay increase.

I have received absolutely no training in this new role and have picked up things myself. I'm not the kind of person to flake out and would like to think I would happily continue in the secondment if the conditions were right -- which they currently aren't ! So my thought is what benefit am I currently getting from any of it ?
