TA looking for temporary job over summer holidays

FindingTheImpossible · 12/06/2022 18:35

As the title says I am trying to find a job for the summer holidays. I work in a school and want to find something to do during the holidays.

I live in the North West. If anyone could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

TIA

Teaching English on a summer school course for foreign students?
We have a few PGCE teachers working with us over the summer.
Most summer schools will want some kind of teaching qualification but it doesn't necessarily have to be for English.

I worked in pubs and cafes over the summer when I was a TA. Is that an option.

LilyMarshall · 12/06/2022 18:44

Check out the local to you private or boarding schools. They might host summer schools and need extra staff.

contact an employment agency for temp work.

A TA I used to work with had a nanny job for several years when the parents needed childcare in school holidays.

JessicaBrassica · 12/06/2022 18:49

I had a summer job with the National Trust which was fab. Youth hostels are also looking for staff near us. Something like PGL? Hosting overseas students? Working at festivals?

Have a look at local wraparound care as they often have summer camps/ clubs/ playschemes etc.

Also leisure centres often have play scheme camp type holiday clubs.

Or agree cafes/ pubs etc. especially touristy areas are often looking for summer staff.

Private tutor ?
I did this when I was training to be a teacher. Some children I just listened to read, some I taught languages and some I did sats type revision.

Summer camps and holiday clubs will be hiring.

Thefailinghousewife · 12/06/2022 18:59

Let parents know you are available to nanny or for advocacy childcare in the holls. All the TA’s at my sons schools do this and are massively booked up in advance!

Bobbybobbins · 12/06/2022 19:02

We employ two of the TAs from my son's school directly to provide support in the holidays. There are often local charities that act as agencies for this.

Have you tried NCS? My son worked with them and the leaders are mostly teachers and uni students

This may not work if she works in a secondary school.

Care work maybe?

I was coming here to say this! I worked on NCS and LOVED it!

Super camps

INeedtobealone · 12/06/2022 19:22

Holiday clubs in schools. I used at one in a special needs school during school holidays while in sixth form and university.

JillFromHolt · 12/06/2022 19:35

Agree with all the above but also have a look at museum type places near you. I've just recruited someone to help with our school holiday programme who has just finished her PGCE. You may not want to work outside your field but supermarkets often want temp summer people too and it's easy to pickup overtime shifts, also event catering/waitressing/bar work can be good for some extra cash.

bigbluebus · 12/06/2022 19:53

Holiday clubs, tourist attractions particularly those aimed at children, hospitality - seems to be crying out for staff atm.

FindingTheImpossible · 12/06/2022 20:38

Thank you all for your suggestions.
I appreciate it.
