A chronological or functional cv? After career break

I have had 5 years out of work looking after my child with SEN. He is now in school full time and I am ready to do go back to work but looking into different more flexible jobs than the ones I worked in before I had my child.
Can anyone advise if a chronological cv or functional cv works best and how far should I go back? I am late 40s

It's a slightly "how long is a piece of string" question.

If, for example, the new thing you want to do is quite different but also something you had lots of experience in during various roles in your 20s, then sure, go functional. If its more that various roles had slightly more relevance but it's a stretch anyway, go chronological but make sure you play up the bits that are relevant to the roles you want.

A CV should include your entire career history but you don't need to include any meaningful amount of detail about jobs that are more than 10 years old (unless they are specifically relevant to the job you want - even then though, don't go too big because 10 years is a long time and things change).
