Absence management and Dependant Leave

I wonder if anyone can confirm my thinking (or set me straight if I am wrong on this)?

I've been asked to attend an absence management meeting as part of our formal absence policy, I assume because I've had too many days off, although I have nothing in writing about the meeting so it's anyones guess really (and yeah, that's another issue but one thing at a time).

Anyhooo, the reason this meeting has been triggered is because I took a day of dependants leave, unpaid, under our dependant's leave policy. However I was under the impression that this type of leave shouldn't be counted alongside sick leave. So shouldn't have triggered a meeting in the first place?

Can anyone confirm or point me to the right resources that I can share with my employer? I want to have my facts straight in case this leads to a bigger issue. Thank you!!

The dependents leave should be kept separate. www.gov.uk/time-off-for-dependants

What you need is your employers sick absence policy and procedures as this will set out whether or not you have triggered a meeting. It could be a coincidence you have been invited to a meeting just after you have taken dependents leave. In my experience trigger point absence management meetings can take a while before a manager is notified.
