Interview on Monday

I've worked in education for 16 years and this is my first interview outside of education in all that time!
It is for a huge business but still very much linked to what I do in school.
Corporate world though.
I have no idea of what to wear or what to expect etc, just looking for some advice. I'm brushing up on everything I need to know about the job and the company, it is just a different world to the one I'm used to.
I'm also very excited so need to stay cool!!
Any tips?!

Always dress smart.

The recent things that have really caught me out:-

Being unable to give much depth as to what I do outside work (hobbies I say just make me feel boring)

I was absolutely gutted to lose out recently on a job at a major company which was red tape scored (not allowed to pick person liked) and apparently my competency answers were not long enough so that threw me and my advice would be to throughly read up on STAR technique just in case. I was gutted really thought me and the interviewer clicked.

Good luck - this plays a big unknown part is all I can say.

STAR technique.
Use I not we.
If competency based have examples for different types of competencies such as stakeholder management. Put different spin on it. E.g couldn't deliver their needs, sceptical etc
Have examples for each part of job advert.
Did they give you any info on format?

Thanks!!
No not at all, I've already had a telephone pre interview. They've said it'll be about an hour so a lot less than I'm used to in my current setting.

Competency answers is giving me something to think about 🤯

Smart clothes, not necessarily a suit, but definitely smart business like attire.

I second using "I" instead of "we".

Be very familiar with your CV, be prepared for any questions that may come off the back of it.

Do some research into the company. Read the job description and make mental notes of how your skills and experience make you a good fit.

I've recently had a few interviews and also conducted interviews at work, all now using competency based questions. A few reoccurring questions:

Talk about a challenge you've faced and how did you tackle it?

Talk about a time you've helped a colleague

Talk about a time you've made a mistake at work, how did you find it and what did you do to resolve

Talk about times you've dealt with conflict at work

Go into the interview feeling confident. Just remember you're there because they fee you have potential to be a good fit. Also remember, you're interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you. It works both ways! Good luck!
