Going back to work, Is it more productive if 2 full days or 5 mornings ( 3 hours) a day?

Redglitter · 29/05/2022 16:47

2 full days without question

JeansAndJumper · 29/05/2022 16:47

2 full days, waaayyy easier to sort the rest of your life around for school holidays etc or even just for when you want to do something for a whole day

LIZS · 29/05/2022 16:50

2 days, otherwise the boundaries are likely to blur and you find yourself working longer.

How old are your children? 5 mornings are great for working round school age children, but not so good for younger ones (where you are probably best putting them in childcare for full days).

How long is your commute? If it's not very close, you won't want to be travelling 5 days a week.

What's the job? Is it the sort of job where work will build up if you're not there to do it? If so, 5 days is easier on you (everyone I know who worked 2-3 days ended up having to do stuff from home on their days off, just to catch up).

I used to work 5 mornings. I like that my DC spent less time each day in childcare, that we could d something every afternoon; that I never had a rushed evening; and that I could keep on top of the job. You never get a day off though.

Definitely two full days

Buzzer3555 · 29/05/2022 16:55

Two full days. If you have to get up and dressed and out of the house you may as well make it worth it

I work 4 short days (16 hrs per week) and although it's nice to drop the kids to school and pick them up, I find myself WFH unpaid as there's not enough hours to get everything done and people presume you should as it's your working day. Plus additional costs of petrol to and from work and extra childcare cover in the holidays. I think I would prefer 2 full days.

MagpiePi · 29/05/2022 17:07

Definitely 2 full days

If travel costs you anything then you are paying as much for a half day as a full day, but it is a much bigger percentage of your take home pay.

Also, with half days it is so easy for you to fall into the ' oh, can you just... ' 5 minutes before you clock off, but whatever the job, it takes 30mins minimum.

2 full days

Jeansgoals · 29/05/2022 17:19

Fewer outfits required, less fuel, fewer lunches. You can really get your head into work.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 29/05/2022 17:23

2 full days

Wonderwoman333 · 07/06/2022 14:04

2 full days, you will feel like you have a real break from work on your days off.
Also better for childcare, commuting time and cost.

GreenCard · 07/06/2022 14:07

2 full days. My half days I never left when I should and the guilt felt worse. Unless you WFH and have no travel and it fits in better

Wheretheskyisblue · 07/06/2022 21:22

I do 2 days split over 3 (9am to 2pm) without a lunchbreak. It works pretty well and I like having a bit of time to myself before the children finish school. I think it is better for my employer too than 2 full days as I am more engaged throughout the week. I do wfh though and finish promptly 90% of the time.
