Returning to work; how long (in general) do you have to work full time to get full time maternity pay (again)?

I found out I was pregnant with DS2 a week before I went back after DS1. Stayed for 6 months claimed maternity - then left. Not my intention but worked well in the end. I do not think there is a stat. minimum but I think you might need to check on your own conditions.

I work for the NHS and there is no minimum time to work before going on mat leave again HOWEVER I do have to work for 3 months following Mat leave or pay back some money

Denny185 · 12/01/2008 20:27

You would prob need to check, ours is to do with length of employment so as long as no break in contract we could go back almost ready to drop again. Im due to finish in March and only went back April last year, hasnt affected mat pay

bristols · 12/01/2008 20:28

Same as mmelody. I was 12 weeks pg when I returned from mat leave with DS and no probs with mat pay.

Octothechildherder · 12/01/2008 20:30

Shouldn't affect it if in continuous employment.

perpetualworrier · 12/01/2008 20:39

If it's the same job, doesn't matter if you're 9 months preg when you go back.

redclover79 · 12/01/2008 21:02

I'm just returning to work next week and am pg again. Will not qualify for maternity pay as they work out your mat leave pay from earnings in teh week 15 weeks before your due date. I should imagine my company do the bare minimum they are required to by law but I am also part time so that may affect my terms differently! AFAIK, mat pay basic is approx £112 p/week or 90% of your average weekly earnings, whichever is less.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds goooood.

OK I am going back three days a week to begin with, then full time, after an undecided amount of time. How long would I have to work full time (after part time) to qualify for full time mat pay?

Does that make sense? Had a glass of wine with dinner (hic)

it depends on your qualifying pay in the qualifying period - you get a percentage of that. so theoretically you could just work full time for the relevant period - 15 wks before due date I think.

GENIUS Redclover! Yes, that's why I got a bonus baby last time, as bonus pay was 15weeks before my due date.

I should have worked that out myself, thanks.
