Hi everyone

I am 17 weeks pregnant and been WFH for the past 6 months.

I have had very bad nausea and sickness and protein leaking into my urine for the past 2 weeks. My GP signed me off work for 1 week.

I returned to work and my company has said we require everyone to come into the office 2x a week. I would be driving to work which is 1 hours 25 mins each way in the morning. And evening. Maybe more depending on traffic.

i explained to my manager that I have nausea/vomiting through the day which I am managing with medicine. I am light headed too and frequently going to the toilet as I need to drink water to stay hydrated from vomiting.

My manager said we need you to make the effort to come in as we need people to come in regularly and I’m happy for you to come in at 9.30. See how you get on.

I am so anxious now and I don’t know what to do.

Do you have hyperemesis? My sickness was 24/7 and was for all 9 months. I got signed off for the first 3 months as I was severely dehydrated. But when I returned my employer was great, I work in a supermarket so the smell of fresh bread would make me throw up and eating first thing was a massive struggle. So they pushed my work start time till later in the day as I started at 5am. Your employer should have done a risk assessment and made adjustments accordingly. I'd personally speak to HR or get signed off by GP

Pre covid I had to go into the office every day. With my second pregnancy I remember having to run out of a meeting to be sick ... that wasn't fun.

I had a friend who was so sick with her first. The staff on C2C knew her by name after a while and even got sick bags for her.

You have to go to work. If you are so unwell you can't drive you need a fit note from the GP that lists an adjustment as working from home.

Sounds horrendous, there must be something you can ask for to help? Perhaps one day in if you can manage? I did shifts as a nurse and it was brutal tbh, the driving the standing/being on my feet the smells. All fine not pregnant but I really struggled, then my pelvis decided not to play so I was signed off for the remainder of the pregnancy.

I hope you’re feeling better soon op

One of my team had similar issues when we were being pushed to come into the office twice a week.

The GP gave her a fit note specifying home working and that's worked out well.
