Person Spec- Essential Criteria

I have seen a job I am really interested in, however one of the essential criterion is 'Experience working in a supervisory capacity', which I don't have as such. I undertook a period of secondment 15 years ago, where I supervised a member of staff for 6 months or so, and my role as a PA involves managing up in terms of organising someone else's time/tasks etc. Can I include this as a supervisory element or should I state that whilst I haven't managed a team I have managed the work of the others in terms of working as a PA etc?? Any help would be very much appreciated :)

Yes, you can put that.

With any job application, it is ALWAYS going to depend on who else applies.
It might be that your strengths and experience in all the other areas 'add up' to more than the 'negative' of not exactly fitting the criteria for that one point.

Of course, if you have had a mentoring role for any new staff, you could mention that, and if you have had any sort of managerial role or supervisory role outside of work - in a voluntary role perhaps?

"Experience working in a supervisory capacity'"

-which I don't have- "I undertook a period of secondment 15 years ago, where I supervised a member of staff for 6 months or so,"

Imposter syndrome.

Yes, I have supervised a member of staff. This included my finalising tasks after review. I set deadlines to staff assigned to me and checked periodically whether they were on target. I factored this into my working day.

I set reporting and catch up deadlines for the staff who I was supervising.....

I managed the workflow and training requirements of those under my supervision by identifying and addressing training needs.

My supervision role helped hone my productivity skills as I worked out how to prevent downtime by setting appropriate work deadlines, which brought the companies' holistic productivity up by X, Y, Z (something tangible)

I implemented a system which meant deadlines were met more easily (detail it)

Supervising others improved my ability to give feedback and so develop a more holistic view of projects.

-just off top of my head-

It's about selling yourself with tangible examples.
