New job not honouring contract

I have just started a new job, where both the job advert and the contract I signed stated I was eligible for a company car.

This was key in my decision to take the job as the salary isn't massively more than I was on before (although the long term prospects are better)

However, my boss now says that by the company car process I am not eligible (due to number of miles driving on company business and lack of seniority). The contract does have a clause stating that my eligibility may be removed in the future if my job role changed and I no longer meet the criteria.

As far as I am concerned, this is in my contract and therefore should be honoured, at least for the first lease period (3 years), after which a review would take place anyway. Is that correct?

Additionally, because I am so new to role (a couple of weeks), I don't think the union will support me? Plus, there is another hr issue of my online profile saying I am ineligible to join the union (I am not a manger).

Some guidance would be appreciated about how to approach the car issue.

Speak to your boss and tell him that it was stated in your contract and the job advert, and that it was pivotal in your decision to take the job.

If they won't back down on it, find another job.

If they're willing to deceive you so early on and go back on their word, then just think what else could happen further down the line.

I don't think I would want to stay with a company that lured me in under false pretences.

Anyone can join a union, manager or not.

If your boss is being unreasonable perhaps take this to HR directly as it’s a contract issue. Your role can’t have changed in the timescale you’ve been there obviously so I can’t see how they can refuse this without breach of contract. If you have legal insurance on your household insurance then maybe worth speaking to them as well if you don’t get anywhere with HR. As others say it doesn’t reflect well on your new company though unfortunately.
