Hi all, I am due back to due in July and I was full time before I left on maternity I was doing 3 / 12 hour shifts in the nhs.
I am looking at only going back doing one day so just one 12 hour shift. I feel so anxious sending my flexibility to my manager incase she goes crazy and says there's no way I can only do 12 hours 1 day I must do more.

Can they dismiss me attall, I have choose one day now as I need to look after my baby Monday-Saturday as husband works and I am offering to work every Sunday.

Just wanted some advice and what my rights are. I've worked for the nhs for 6 years now and never asked for flexibility.

I'm not sure if it's different for NHS workers (?) probs not but as far as I'm aware you are absolutely allowed and within your rights to formally request flexible working/change of working hours once you return from mat leave. If they go crazy at you for asking for flexible leave then that is unprofessional and you can write a formal complaint, so don't be anxious about asking the question, lots of parents would have done the same. Whether or not they grant it is a different matter..

Your employer js under no obligation to change your hours to suit you and so if you can't come to an agreement/your prior working hours aren't going to be manageable now babe is here then you will have to hand in your notice and find a job elsewhere that does.

Really hope that you and your manager can find a suitable working arrangement and best of luck going back to work x Flowers
