Hi everyone,
At the minute I am full time but was considering dropping one day per week due to health. I have been quite unwell for some time with my chrons and felt that it would help give me a better work/life balance in the hope that it would help with my health too.
Now that the time has come to speak to my manager I am worrying about money as it will be a drop of £350 per month. My husband says we will manage and my health comes first but with the cost of living the way it is I’m worried now isn’t the right time. Once I change this I won’t be able to change it back. I have a week to decide and tbh I just don’t know what to do now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you haven't already, make a list of all your essential outgoings. So mortgage, insurance, utilities etc
Then how much you currently spend on food & household shopping; clothes; social life, holidays, gifts, hobbies etc. I know you can't be precise but a rough calculation.
Can you cover those with your new salary? If not, are there some outgoings you can reduce? You may find you end up spending a little less as you have more for things like cooking rather than grabbing a takeaway.
I know the above sounds obvious, but given you're not sure you can afford it and your husband thinks you can. It suggests that you perhaps haven't sat down together and done the subs?

Thanks @RockingMyFiftiesNot I have all the figures here and know that right now we can afford it but with all the talk of rising costs etc I think I have got freaked out. If anything at the moment we can be guilty of spending money when we don’t need to.
I figured if I was off one day a week when my child is at school it gives me a chance to shop more sensibly and get some batch cooking or meal planning done so essentially there would be less waste.
Ive done all I can with regards to cutting back bills where possible back in March. There are always further things we could reduce or drop if needs be.
It’s just a decision Im scared to make I think!

Is that gross or net £350?

Net pay
