Hi. Has anyone ever had a conditional offer of employment with the NHS withdrawn due to sickness/absence record from previous employer? I'm a bit concerned as I had one period lasting 90 days within two years. Would they recind the offer? Any help please 😊

Hi @Tiny3000 was your job withdrawn? I’m in a similar position

If they were worried they’d talk to you first and/or you’d just have Occupational health appointment to clear you or if it’s too much for them - I doubt it would be arbitrary they will probably use the Bradford score or the internal sickness warning triggers as guidance.

I think it depends on the context and how you explain it as well. Say you were off with a broken leg and you’re all healed then I think most recruiters would be ok.

If it’s random days all through the year then they may not be happy with that, the only factor being of it was due to a disability they may need to consider whether you just need adjustments to do your role.

In short, depends what the issue was and whether it’s resolved or managed and what OH may advise. Good luck op.

I have seen this in the NHS but it tends to be for people who are always off for short episodes - but lots of them. Someone I know missed out on a band 5 post (that she'd been offered) as she'd had loads of sick leave from her band 4 post.

Congrats @Tiny3000 Flowers Are you new to the NHS?

StandUpForYourRights · 29/06/2022 22:20

I recruit in the NHS, and I have once withdrawn an offer after seeing references and sick records. Lots of short episodes are more worrying and would prompt a discussion with the candidate or OHD. One single long episode isn't usually an issue as it is certificated and would normally have a very good reason. Do not hand in notice until offer has been made unconditional which will mean references and OHU will have been signed off by the recruiting manager

i worked in nhs occ health, some time ago,
and it was very very rare to withdraw offer on medical issues

MrsLargeEmbodied · 30/06/2022 11:11

one 3 month period?
that is irrelevant i imagine
