Return to work after maternity leave

Hi all my step daughter has come to the end of her maternity leave after having her 2nd child , she has contacted her employer / manager to inform she is ready to return and has been waiting to hear back and hasn't had any contact, her manager is a odd one and has treated her quite horribly in the past and although she hasn't said it directly its clearly a bitch tactic to push her out of the job and make her feel she is no longer welcome, she is a grafter and a mum of 2 and needs the job , this guys being quite mean in a covert way and aside from I would like to have words with him in private to politely tell him I'm not happy I'm unsure on the best next move,

I feel very strongly he is upsetting her and he is playing God and shouldn't be able to get away with this , he knows she has 2 young children to support ,

Anyone had a similar situation or could offer any advice on how to best take the situation above the managers head for a resolve, I think she has lost all confidence over this and most likely wouldn't want to work under his management again over this but he shouldn't be able to get away with it

She should email her manager CCing HR, tell them her return date and then go into the office on that day.

Agree with above post. It’s not really their choice, it’s hers. If they don’t reply, I’d go in and see them and tell HR & the dickh* manager the date. x

From your original message it sounds like you might be considering getting involved yourself? I would strictly advise against that, I think it is for your step daughter to sort out herself. Perhaps she could request to move into a different team on her return?

If there is a HR department then perfect, all she needs to do in theory is contact them. Do what @MolliciousIntent suggested.

If it's a smaller company without a dedicated HR department, she needs to contact someone above the manager, be it the manager's manager, or even one of the Directors if it's a small company.

Whatever you do, do NOT get directly involved. She is a grown adult, the workplace is a professional place, it will only make the situation worse and look extremely unprofessional.
