NHS bank staff question

Hi folks, would really appreciate any information on NHS bank staff particularly healthcare assistant role. Ive googled my local trust's website to get info and all it says is to contact them for more info which i will do however just wanted to see if anyone on here could help first.
For context I work in the ambulance service as a technician so i have a lot of clinical/patient facing experience. Some of my ambulance colleagues are former nurses so sometimes do bank shifts now and again at local hospital.
Would it be possible for someone with my experience to become a healthcare assistant on the bank? If so what sort of training is generally carried out?

Many thanks!

You should only need the mandatory training and orientation initially. Any mandatory role training that you've undertaken already in your current nhs post such as cpr, fire, moving and handling etc, shouldn't have to be repeated till it's next due. If you're going on to the wards you'll need a different skill set such as skin monitoring, dietary requirements, mobility and so on. Once you've contacted management you'll have a better idea of the trusts policy and protocols. Each Trust develops it's own training requirements so I can only tell you what's expected within my trust. God luck.

Think they typically ask for a care nvq or working towards one. That’s what I was told when I went to apply for bank work aside from my permanent role.

I went into a HCA role from being admin so I'm sure you will be way ahead of that in terms of experience

I had a mentor for 2 weeks, orientation etc and mandatory training

I loved it!

I'm qualified now and band 7, how I wish I could go back ☺️

It depends on the trust. Most will make you do some mandatory training, some you might be able to use any training that you already have especially moving and handling or basic life support. Our trust have a two week orientation for new staff and then you are introduced to the wards as supernumerary to get you used to the environment.

Our trust doesn’t ask you to be working towards an nvq etc.

Good luck!
