Stuck unhappy in childcare - any suggestions?

I'm a early years worker working full time.
I love children but I've recently been moved to an age and stage that I don't particularly enjoy working with due to staff changes - colleagues leaving etc. I was moved into this room due to ratios. I like my colleagues but I preferred the age I was working with before. I never let my disappointment show and am always upbeat and as happy as I can be whilst working. However, as time has passed I am finding my passion has definitely faded.

I'm starting to really dread going to work and I used to live for it. I like my colleagues but after discussing with my manager, he isn't prepared to move me to another room or back to my old room until new staff have been found. We have had new staff start but he still hasn't moved me as I have over ten years' experience and the new starters are fairly inexperienced (his words not mine).

Do I stick this out for an unpredetermined amount of time or hand my notice in and work elsewhere?

I love working with children but I feel like my skills and passions lie in preschool only. In the future, I would like to specialise in preschool, reception and year 1 education.

Do I suck it up or make plans to leave?

Any advice?!

Look at community nursery nurse roles in local HV teams. Best job I've ever had.

Thanks @cdba88 where would I find these roles? NHS website or somewhere else? Sounds really interesting.

NHS jobs x

This happened to me. I'm much happier working with preschool age than the 2-3 toddler stage, it is very different work. I moved to help out temporarily and ended up with the age group for about 3 years and it did erode my enthusiasm for the job.

Have you considered moving to a new nursery or are you looking for a completely new job? I wouldn't recommend care work from nursery work, it is still a very hard role and not much better paid than childcare. I've done both.
