I know what I'm good at,I know what I want to do. I had my own business doing sleep training and behaviour management but can't restart because I can't afford to market myself.

I'd love to do liaison work within the community - e.g. between the police and mental ill health sufferers - or resolution support for any group really.

My skills are personal ones, I'm qualified in Primary Education and have work experience over many years with families, mental health services and within community development but I cannot find a job adxvertised that fits the bill (and pays my bills!!)

I want to go it alone but don't know where to start. I don't think people are convinced by me saying "I'm good at this stuff honest, shit hot in fact" but where do I start.

Help me getmy thinking straight - please kind mumsnetters - and any practical advice would be great.

I have 3 dc - only 2 of whom are in school. am a lone parent, essentially.

What started me off was a couple arguing over an affair in the pub garden last weekend and I instantly 'knew' why there argument was going round in circles. I know mediation/resolution stuff is my forte but it is a personal skill not one I have qualifications in! I have great references from previous clients is all.

My advice is to get a small business loan and restart your business. If it's what you know, and you still have contacts with a client base, why not go back to that?

Well surely you could advertise/get work on here?

Sophable might need you! (and me)

Why not start by advertising on here? It would be relatively cheap and you've got a massive potential client base. Then you can rely on word of mouth and before you know it you'll be up and running.

have you thought about training as a counsellor?

dividedselfridgesxmaswindow · 14/01/2008 14:23

Thanks for suggestions.

I guess advertising here is quite reasonable but I've always wondered how much people take notice of ads here apart from if they have comedy value??!

Perhaps I'll try it when I next have some spare money - soon hopefully.

I still think I need a website for people to go to and that is out of my non existent budget for now unfortunately.

Training as a counsellor might be a good one to look into - at least it would give an extra string to my bow. You can do short and long courses can't you?
