Asking to move off difficult account

I work on the most difficult accounts in the team. I've been told by most of my colleagues that the accounts I have are the hardest by far, and I can see that myself. My mental health is starting to massively suffer. I went to my manager to say I could keep doing all these difficult accounts and needed some variety. The response wasn't great. I got a bit of a lecture on how that was the job and was asked what it was I couldn't handle. I wasnt sure whether to laugh or cry - everyone else can see that my job is specifically challenging.

Was I wrong to raise it? Do you just get on and do what your job is?

Can you be more specific in your request. Explain how colleagues appreciate that your accounts have additional issues of XYZ which creates added workload/stress. Ask for an extra team member or specialised division of labour or for a more senior staff member to liaise with a difficult client etc.

And start looking around for a new job. No need to stay in an environment where you are not supported.

What is it that makes your accounts more difficult than everyone else's? Could it be you just need to ask for some specific training?

From your employer's perspective they are probably worried it will set a precedent if you're allowed to cherry-pick your accounts and if you hit a difficult customer, be able to throw it back and get a nicer one.

If one of my team was struggling with a client, I would want to get the specific details - is the client generally difficult, is there a personality clash, etc

Can you send an email to your manager clearly laying out what the issues are, your suggestion on how to resolve it, etc

I have a similar issue. A lot of my accounts are the more problematic ones but I also know my colleagues also have problematic accounts so I feel the burden is shared but that still doesn't make it any easier. I havent said anthing to my boss as I expect a response along the lines of this is the job and we have to deal with it. A lot of the more peoblematic accounts are the ones that make the most money for the businees so the directors won't drop then and are even reluctant to enter in to coversations that might offen or upset them so the issue isnt going to be solved.

Ive just decided that the solution is to look for a new job. If I cant deal with the clients I am expected to deal with then I will go elsewhere. Although finding anothrer job may be easier said than done.
