Advice on Business Insurance

Hello I work as a domcillary (home) carer. I only get paid for the time I am at clients houses, ie no travel time. I get mileage reimbursement. My employer has asked that I pay to get business insurance for my car. Does the sound appropriate? Many thanks.

Yes because you are using your car to travel between your places of work.

Yes. You are using your car for business.

Yes. Unfortunately your insurance may be invalid if you don’t tell them you use the car for work purposes, and that comes out in the event of a claim. have a look in the terms and conditions of your insurance. It sucks, I know 😣

HMRC mileage rate is 45p per mile. If they're paying you less than this you can claim the difference and you pay less tax/get a tax rebate - so if they pay 25p you can get a tax reduction on the 20p. Sorry, I'm crap at explaining but if you Google it there is a form you can complete to avoid having to complete a tax return
