Leaving term time only job

I'm just about to hand my notice in and work in a school on a term time only contract. Annoyingly, I'll be leaving just before the summer holidays and have been wondering how they will calculate my final pay. My annual salary is split into 12 equal amounts and as I will have worked pretty much all the school year my feeling is that I should get most of my pay for July and August even though I will have left as I would worked the hours to qualify for it if that makes sense!
If anyone has any experience of this that would be great. I'm planning to call ACAS and the union I belong to to see what they think should happen.

Are you going to another job? Most people will hand their notice in to end in August, to ensure thy get paid for the summer.

Won't you get 10/12ths of your annual holiday entitlement which you've received over the year?

FridayBluezzzz · 03/05/2022 12:44

It will depend on your contact however in my experience you won’t get pay for the holidays if you leave before. I’d hang on and quit in the holidays if you can hang on, it’s what everyone else does. Unless you have another job I’d send notice in at start of august assuming you are on a months notice.
there’s no holiday entitlement with term time jobs, sometimes there are payment changes to do with PD days (if you are expected to make the time up for them for instance).

Thanks for your replies. I am going to another job but not in schools so will need to hand in my notice before starting the new job. I haven't got a confirmed start date for the new job yet so I'm waiting for that before handing in my notice. It looks like it'll coincide with a week or so before the end of term which is frustrating as I may lose both the holiday time and the pay for it. I do think I should be entitled to the July and August pay as my salary is split into 12 parts rather than not being paid for holiday weeks.

I found this information which indicates I should be owed some pay for the holiday weeks as I will have worked nearly all the school days I should have for the year. I'll need to look over my contract and speak to HR as well as see what ACAS and the union say

Hi op. I'm in a near identical situation, how did this work out for you?

Tippingadvice · 19/06/2023 19:10

@Thisisheavy why do you have to hand in your notice early?

Why can’t you resign from the end of August but start new job. Yes there is tax etc. to sort out because for a time you have 2 jobs but you are not actually working during your notice period so it’s up to you what you do with your leave.

Youknowaboutthepaint · 19/06/2023 19:17

They should calculate your owed holiday based on a pro rate year from the date you started. So I started in May (2015) and leave mid July and am owed c. 2 weeks' holiday pay.

You'll probably have to ask though.

If you're going to another job starting in Sep keep it simple and resign effective 31 Aug.

Hi there please can some one advise me?

I have always worked in childcare and started a new job September last year.

I'm not enjoying my new position and have found another job during this summer holidays. I'm currently in a term time only position and my question is can I hand in my notice during this half term? I've tried Google but not getting answer.
