Do I go off sick?

I've just found out that a tissue biopsy has indicated 'unknown' tissue which will be removed at the end of the month.

I'm terrified, very up and down, trouble sleeping etc

I have a demanding role, part of which could be done at home but the client facing stuff I just can't face.

So my question is, do I just go off sick until the end of the month and surgery is over? Or do I request WFH until that point (I will have to go sick for the surgery and recovery)

Thanks

Request WFH if that will accomodate your situation better. Sick pay is bloody rubbish unless you get an enhanced rate in your work contract so it's best to be on it as little time as possible. Would WFH be possible in your role? I'm so sorry you're going through this.

My GP signed me off for a month "awaiting surgery". I already knew it was cancer at that stage and I knew I would be off 6-12 months afterwards. I was more worried about making a mistake at work because I was exhausted and distracted by the cancer/surgery

My sick pay is pretty good, 6m full pay

I can only do part of my job WFH, but can still update figures, supervise staff, attend online meetings or training

@MissSmiley that's exactly how I feel
I can't concentrate on things

I hope you're ok and have recovered Flowers

In that case, I'd go off sick. Give yourself some breathing room before the procedure and have time to recover. You're not your best working self right now and you need to focus on your mental and physical wellbeing.
