Stress depression anxiety

A friend of mine has suffered from depression/stress/anxiety for a long time now. It was effecting her at work as the store she was in was very busy - she spoke to management about the issue and they decided to move her to a less busy store so it’s slow pace which has helped her a lot. Her sales are up, she’s recently moved a level up with her training.

Recently they have been pressuring her that they can help her with a Occupational health assessment. She’s willing to take the help, however they are pressuring her to give permission for her health records to be retrieved. It clearly says in the form ‘we may need medical records’, however the manager is being very pushy saying they need it.
she feels like she’s being pushed out of work in a indirect way or they are trying to find ways to get rid of her if she declines help.

where can she go from here?

she’s asked me to put this up for her as she doesn’t have a mumsnet account.

all advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

As an employer, I'd be concerned that she wasn't happy to engage with OH. The whole point is to make working easier for her to manage and the entire process is for her benefit. Medical notes are only accessible to OH and not her employer.

But OH haven’t asked for the medical records it’s her employer pushing her to agree to letting them have access. For now all that’s been done is the OHA form has been filled out, nowhere does it say the assessment can’t go ahead without medical records. She agrees to having a assessment and appreciates the help, but then pushing for the records seems like they have a hidden agenda

Your friend could consider giving limited consent. For example I consent to the OH medical professional viewing my medical records.I do not consent for OH to include details from my medical records in any communications with my employer. I do not consent to my employer viewing my medical records.

The OH medical professional could discuss anything in the medical records and the discussion could be included in the OH report. However, your friend can ask to review the report and request amendments before her it is sent to her employer.

I think she feels because they are arranging this assessment they could be given copies of her records, which she doesn’t feel comfortable with. She’s more than happy to cooperate with them as they feel this assessment could help.

She's going to be seen as being difficult if she doesn't - so I'd encourage her to agree to it. The GP can't and wouldn't hand over her entire medical records.... just the relevant information.
