Hi lovely people, I've recently been offered a new role as a Pathology support worker in my NHS trust. I'm really excited for the role, but wanted to know if anyone here has any experience working as one!!

Thanks in advance :)

I've been a medical lab assistant so I guess a support worker is a similar thing? Do you know which type of lab you'll be in (biochem/haem/micro or histo?) I've only ever worked in biochemistry and microbiology but as a rule you'll be there to help the senior lab staff and biochemists. At my lab that would mean checking on and loading/unloading the analysers, preparing samples to send away, doing some of the basic tests....especially those on urines, answering the phones and dealing with queries, adding on tests. Basically running around to help them out. I actually enjoyed the work in the lab, lots of walking, wouldn't be unusual to so 15000+ steps a day. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions

I didn’t work as an MLA, but I worked as a biomedical scientist (the people they assist) for many years, left the profession I was deeply unhappy, but I have friends who love it. I think you have to be a detail orientated, meticulous person who enjoys numbers, following set procedures and repetition to enjoy the role.
