I know this is going to look really suspect but it's true.

I work in school and in common with most school staff, the last week of term was basically hanging on for the holiday. There's been a lot going on in my role and I needed a break. I planned to work the first week and have a break second week.

However, that didn't work out and I ended up working all holiday dealing with various crisises.

I was admittedly in a foul mood when we returned and told some people I still had that end of term feeling, was knackered and struggling.

Today, I have woken up with the worst headache ever, sweating/shivering, all over body aches etc etc. I'm usually one for working through a cold, but this is something else. Plus with the likely temperature, I shouldn't be there anyway. I had a really difficult meeting today too, which someone else will have to pick up.

My conscience is clear, I really am quite unwell and I'm sure no-one would want me in if they could see me, but they will be thinking I've taken the time I was sulking about...won't they?

Yes they may do. Best not to voice things such as you did in work. Work is a professional environment and you made a mistake there. You should keep all discussions work-oriented in future. Lesson learned.

Just pick an option and stick with it:

Go in and let them see you and get sent home.

Stay home, call in, and face the consequences.

If there's a third option I don't know it.

So, pick one, and live with it. As really what else can you do?

Tbh it's not surprising given your overworked and overtired. They must know you've worn yourself out.

It's unprofessional to mention that I was working all holiday when asked how I spent it?

Pp means it was unprofessional saying you were knackered and struggling- understandably as you'd had no break.
If you hadn't said that, you likely wouldn't be as worried about saying that you are now ill
