It has been a loooong time since I did any PT work so no idea how it is done nowadays.

Ds(18) has an interview for a dominos delivery driver on Saturday. It is just PT for over school holidays and maybe to earn some extra money around uni when he starts.

He has only be driving for 6 months, and not worked before so want to make sure he does everything right. Has anyones/your dc done this job before was it an ok pt job?

He should get at least minimum wage and adequate expenses to cover fuel /car wear and tear or otherwise it would be below minimum wage and illegal? I also hope their business insurance fully covers business use of his car, not just third party (but will also check with his insurance).

Should he expect a contract for PT work at dominos before he starts? I think he needs this to make sure his car is fully covered and will tell him to be firm he cant start until he has the contract and details of insurance in writing to look at and check with his own insurance?

I dont know about Dominoes but a lot of takeaways expect delivery drivers to be self employed has he checked he will actually be an employee of Dominoes?

I’d be surprised if their business insurance covers young drivers. We can’t insure anyone under 21.

do check that he won’t be classed as self employed.

He’d have to get business insurance in his own car, it’s very expensive. I’d try elsewhere to be honest.

Chances are he’ll be self employed and by the time he’s paid for fuel, unlikely to make min wage……. But if it’s local and there’s not much else around……..
if you’re near to a depot Amazon Flex pays much better.

If it is self employed and they don't cover business use of car he'll decline if he gets offered.

Their site doesn't say much but from google I am pretty sure it will be as a PT employee, probably min wage, but it is making sure the insurance/fuel/wear and tear in car is covered.

Age is a good point too, although I did see a comment from someone in google saying the age limit was 18, but need to wait and see.

Also seen conflicting things on google about car insurance, some pay, others don't, and some do but only 3rd party.

The car part makes this so much more complicated for a first PT job!
