I got a new job at a major pub chain last month and was told the team were friendly and nice and that they will help me settle in. I've had no formal training in person just online and I have been doing my absolute best to learn the job. My pub manager was in yesterday and the entire team who were working ignored me the whole of my shift. Including him. I'm feeling very very upset that every time there was no one to be served they all went and stood in the glass wash and ignored me. I wanna quit but obviously I can't because bills to pay and kids to feed but god I feel miserable today

I get what you mean OP.

The company promotes themselves as progressive, dynamic, family friendly, blah blah then you start there and the reality is completely different.

I find it rude in any setting where there's no effort to be inclusive. It could just take time for them to accept you but good idea to look around for something else.

@JenniferAlisonPhilipaSue I don’t think you’re telling us the full story on working in L&D if you don’t believe OP’s story about on line training Grin. It’s widely used and not hard to find Hmm.

I also worked for mcds in the past and there is hours of online training.

I think in these types of jobs often you can start and feel like the atmosphere is a bit unfriendly and unwelcoming but the longer you stay that changes. Make an effort to be friendly and chatty and you’ll soon feel part of it.

@JenniferAlisonPhilipaSue Stop bullying and belittling the OP, your posts are nasty and unhelpful.

If you are recruited into a role and promised work in a friendly and supportive environment, and this is an important factor for you, perhaps because you have little confidence or experience in the working environment, then of course you would feel upset about being ignored by your manager. It's literally his job to integrate new team members and create a pleasant working environment. Just because 'you are there to work' doesn't mean that's the end of it, happy people are more productive and it's a waste of time and resources training people to do a job if they just want to leave because it's so horrible to be there.

Hope you find somewhere a bit nicer next @Lolly34h

@MargotMoon I'm due in tonight and I'm dreading it too. The manager isn't in though so hopefully it will be friendlier. It was the first time id worked with him and the dynamic was totally different to what it has been in shifts previous. I also realised all the staff are white and I feel really aware of that fact too. I don't know whether it's on purpose or people of other races haven't applied but something just seems off.
