Pay rise

What are the rights regarding pay rises?
Of the rest of the staff in your workplace have been given a pay rise bar one person, then staff have been told to keep the pay rise quiet?

Is there anything the employee can do?

It depends why the other staff have been given a pay rise and whether the staff member left out has been discriminated against

The other staff have had a pay rise as staff retention was beginning to become an issue due to bad pay, other companies were offering more for the same roles.

The staff member who hasn't been given a raise actually does more than other staff there, more versatile in their role, picking up other bits of work within the workplace.
This member of staff is being told not to take breaks however, one 30 minute break a day, and to drive above the speed limit to get to deliveries quicker.

There is no reason they should'nt be given a raise in line with the other staff, some who have been there for a shorter length of time, younger and including apprentices.

Assuming you're the person who's missed out, have you asked about a pay increase?

Were others already paid the same as you?

Are they all paid minimum wage hence the increase by law? I bet that's at least the case with the apprentices.

COuld it be that the minimum rate of pay has increased in line with the law but it is age related here? In that under 23s are paid less, and under 18-20s can be paid an even lower hourly rate than those older who get the National Living Wage ?

It's not me but my partner.

He hasn't asked yet, just waiting to give them a chance to come to him first.

They were all on just about minimum wage however the increase is £3 more per hour so not in line with the minimum wage change, partner is also on minimum wage.

The wage rose has gone up £3 above minimum wage for all staff, including apprentices.

He is literally the only one not being give a raise

Have they specifically told the other staff not to tell him or are they telling them not to discuss salaries generally?

Definitely get him to ask! Hopefully it's completely innocent but that's a massive pay rise to exclude someone from.

user1098532268 · 13/04/2022 18:58

They've been told not to say anything so it's definitely deliberate

Have the specifically said "don't tell 'users DP'"?

If so that's out of order and hopefully someone with an employment law speciality will come along shortly because it sounds off!

From what I gather that's what's been said.
