Take boring job or hold out for something more exciting?

Right, first off, I know I'm
In a privileged position. I do know I'm going to sound whiney and spoilt. Sorry in advance!

I've been offered a job (40k) full time some remote working in a not very exciting sector. I am a little hesitant as I know I will be a little bored in the job. I won't be doing anything new or challenging. I have taken jobs in the past and regretted them when I've taken something well below my experience level.

I need a new job as my contract ends in two months. I'm bored in this job but I've achieved some good results.

But I'm worried I may be bored in this job mainly because I used to have a good high-flying career (double the salary / blue chip employers) but due to circumstances (redundancy, illness, working away) and bit of bad luck I couldn't get back to that level (and had to take a very poor paying and awful job locally). This looks quite messy on my cv but overall it's sharpened my practice and ended any ego! I certainly don't think I'm above certain tasks or think I know better than others.

My dilemma is that with remote/hybrid working there's the opportunity to get back to a more challenging position again to earn more money and find more status. However, i have to be careful I don't burn out (chronic illness). Where I am geographically there are very limited options for middle career. I don't want to freelance as I'm best and happiest in-house. I do like contracting though.

Practically I'm very lucky that my income is not needed for the household. I work for my own career reasons and whilst the money is great for the household we can manage without it.

I'd take this job (and give it everything) if it paid 10k more. I think I've always enjoyed working with talented colleagues found in more high profile/bigger employees and it's been quite difficult being in the public sector clearly more capable/experienced that those above me. So if you're still reading, new job or stick it out?

Do you think in the next 2 months you'll find the more exciting role? Or could you take the less fun job and see how you can progress with it and see where it leads to?

If you can wait and look for the more exciting job with no serious financial issues, go for it! But if you need stability and a longer time to think about your next step, stick with boring

Accept boring job for now, and apply elsewhere.
