Accident at work - would you claim?

I’ve had a fall at work. Tripped over an exposed wire that has been there for ages despite them repeatedly being told it needs sorting because it’s unsafe.
I landed on my wrist and ended up going to A&E. They have currently put it down as a bad sprain but going back tomorrow to double check it isn’t a break. They couldn’t see one on the X-ray but said it may not have shown up.
Everyone is telling me to claim. I thought it was a silly idea that everyone says but I’m struggling to look after my 1 year old on my own, and it’s starting to make me think.. should I?
What would you do? Honest opinions please

Yes. They were negligent, imo.

Yes.

At this point, you should ensure that it is logged in the accident book. I don’t know what you re intending to claim for at this point, seems premature, but having it in the accident book is a placeholder.

Personally I’d log it but not sue my employer no.

Didn't you start this thread earlier and it was deleted??

OP will post a pic of the ridiculously exposed wire in a sec!

Honestly If it turns out to be broken or it ends up costing you money I would.. otherwise I wouldn't. You would need to so financial loss or emotional damage which you haven't suffered as yet.
I'm biased I suppose because I hate compo
Culture that some people seems to have . Sue if you end up out of pocket, otherwise don't.

In the past I always would have said no but, after something similar happened to me last year, I am now of the opinion you should claim if it is going to affect you in the future. I didn't and am still having issues with mobility months later. I need tests which are taking an age on the NHS but I can't afford to go privately. I wish I hadn't been so quick to tell my employers it was all fine and effectively get it all signed off as okay.
