It's going on a specific website for childcare jobs in my area

This is what I have come up with - can you improve it?

"2 Part-time positions - covering 7.30-11.30 Mon to Thurs, 7.30-1 on Friday. 3-6 Mon to Thurs 1-6 on Friday (may suit a job share).

A flexible role combining administration and childcare.
Must have a definite interest in children and be able to integrate into a small tight knit team (trained to NVQ3 level).
May need to work addition hours to cover holidays/sickness.
There is a comprehensive induction programme and regular training will be provided and arranged, along with a current CRB check (employer will arrange).
Employer anticipates opening a nursery later in the year and there is an opportunity to develop within an Outstanding (OFSTED?s opinion) setting."

I seem to be having a mental block

Is this better?

Two part time positions available to work within a well-qualified team in a small and friendly childcare setting.
Post 1 - 7:30am - 11:30am Monday to Thursday & 7:30am - 1pm on Fridays Post 2 - 3pm - 6pm Monday to Thursday & 1pm - 6pm Fridays.
These posts can be flexible and may suit a job share arrangement with the option of both members of staff doing a mixture of mornings and afternoons if required. Additional hours may need to be covered for staff holidays / sickness.

Applicants must be enthusiastic about working with children and also be able to assist with some administrative and accounting duties. There will be a comprehensive induction program and regular training will be provided including statutory, non-statutory and NVQ, along with a CRB check which employer will arrange.
The Employer anticipates opening a Nursery later in the year so this is an excellent opportunity for those wishing to develop their careers within an outstanding setting that plans to expand.

Katymac I've been umming and erring whether to answer your post.

Hopefully someone will come along who can help you. I am in a difficult position because I provide consultancy to small businesses and this is the kind of thing I would charge a business like yours for. I have given you advice on other threads you have started before, including iirc a large chunk of guidance about appraisals. But I think I need to draw the line a bit. I can't really reconcile charging small businesses locally to me for advice if I provide the same advice to similar businesses like yours free on the internet.

I am happy to answer brief quick queries which involve, for example, pointing you at the correct page on directgov or businesslink, or something, but as I say, I do feel I need to draw the line at giving businesses this level of help free on the internet.

I do apologise. Obviously there are lots of other people who answer threads in Employment and I am sure there will be people who will help you with this. I just felt I wanted to explain my personal position to you, as I would not normally let a thread go answered where I can help.

I hope you understand, and, as I say, I am sure there will be other people along who are not in a similar position to me and who will have lots of advice to give you.

Good luck with your recruitment anyway

Sorry if I'm being picky here but I would probably want to know exactly what kind of setting I was working in.

How many other people in the team? What ages are the children?

If you're going into a nursery you know you're working with under-5s but IIRC from your other threads you're a CM working with other CMS so presumably you have before/after schoolies.

What would the duties be? You've only mentioned admin and accounting which might not sound that inspiring to someone who wants to work with children.

I like the mention of Outstanding rated by OFSTED, or should that be OFSTED rated Outstanding? Either way it was a good thing to have in.

frannikin · 08/01/2008 15:45

Also would you accept applicants who want both posts?

I just think that I wouldn't mind doing split shifts like that if the setting was near enough to me.

KatyMac · 08/01/2008 16:22

Frannikin -Yes I would accept someone doing both posts (bit worried about the Friday - but I have someone who could do a longer lunchtime)

That's a good point about the setting - the website does have a bit about the setting on it along with a tick list with the children's ages & some general duties

I never know about the Outstanding - but I am proud of it.

Flowerybeanbag, I never expect professional advise when I post my threads, which are as aften about weaning or potty training as business stuff. Don't worry at all, when I use my profession I expect paying for it, as I am sure you do. However I have been talking to other people on another thread about the job & it has provided me with some useful advise. Thanks anyway (& for your previous advise- which was great btw & really helped)

I'm glad you understand, I do try and help people whenever I can, but this just didn't seem quite right iyswim. I definitely know you are a regular posting about all sorts, I certainly wasn't thinking you were on here for freebies

I'm glad you hvae got some useful advice elsewhere anyway, hope it goes well.
