Civil Service Sick Pay query

Hi lovely wise mumsnetters, I'm hoping one of you might be able to advise. Partner works for the MOD he had a long period of absence ...2 yrs...and only got full pay for 6 months then went straight to nil pay as he had exhausted the sick pay within a 4 yr period. So sick pay stopped October 2019. He returned to work in April 2021 and he has had no absences since. If he has a further absence is he likely to be paid sick pay? I'm confused when I read the policy.Confused

Depends what the policy is tbh
What does it say?

Doesn't sound like he'd get contractual sick pay if he had more than 365 days paid sick leave in the last 4 years. Would probably just get statutory sick pay

That’s how I read it too.

Ah ok, in the last 4 yrs he's only had 5 months paid sick leave, sick leave from 2017 has now dropped off.

I work in a different sector of the CS however the way it was explained to me from HR is that they look at a 4 year period and this mimics what the policy you've attached says.

People mistakenly view it as 6 months paid per year but it's not it's over a 4 year period. The trigger for warnings is on (I think) the 4th absence no matter the length and then manager discretion is an option.

If your partner has had less than 6 months full pay on sick leave and has not had 365 days off over that 4 years then theoretically they should have the balance available to them.

*Disclaimer - I am not an HR person, just repeating my understanding from convos with them

@Workchatter that was my thinking, thanks for confirming 👍

If the 2017 absences have dropped off he should get full pay again.
