Dream job and TTC

4 replies

User030422 · 03/04/2022 14:41

Been TTC for 2 cycles now with no luck. Been offered a dream job in the career that I have always wanted. I start Monday. I'm 30.

Do I carry on TTC and potentially risk my employer letting me go at the end of 6 month probation and losing out on this career opportunity?

Or do I wait 6-12 months before trying again?

So torn as I don't want to mess up this new career, but I'm also 30 and don't know how much longer I want to leave it as I am not guaranteed to fall pregnant straight away.

Posted this in the work forum but feel free to move to conception.

If you want to be a mum, don't wait. Take the job as well but don't put your life on hold for it

I'd wait - 6-12 months isn't going to make a difference.

@okayigetit @SierpinskiSquare

Thanks for both your input. I have decided to go somewhere in between and start trying again in about 3 or 4 months.

I love my new job and don't want to jeopardise this new opportunity but, at the same time, I REALLY want to be a mum.

So I feel like 3 or 4 months is a good option because if I'm lucky enough to get pregnant straight away, I'll have done near enough a year there before I go on maternity. And I'm in no way guaranteed to fall pregnant straight away. Already had 2 failed cycles.

If they let you go after your probation because you’re pregnant then you’d firstly probably have a good discrimination case and secondly would you really want to work for a company that treated women like that?

It might also be worth looking at their maternity pay policy - where I work you have to have been here a year to qualify for the enhanced/company maternity pay rather than statutory.
