I have volunteered to teach an hour a week online - teaching a language to a group of beginners (adults). I am confident in my subject but not at all confident with Teams and Powerpoint. I wonder if anyone could point me to some online tutorials to help me?
I envisage sharing a screen and doing interactive quizzes, watching short videos together and even (if I can manage) breakout groups. Can anyone help would be v grateful x

There are loads of mini tutorials on youtube- perhaps scroll through a few and see which host explains in the clearest way?

If you have a PowerPoint or a video opened, you can share your screen. I would practice with a friend beforehand.

Youtube is probably your best bet? And if you can, do a trial with a couple of friends on teams so you get the hang of screen sharing, muting others etc. Make sure you adjust your meeting settings in teams once you’ve set the meeting (Either double click, or right click and look for a ‘settings’ type button - youtube/ google will be more helpful than me!) as this allows you to have a bit more control with you as ‘presenter’ and your attendees as ‘participants’ (so you can share your screen and mute people, but they cannot do the same to you!). There is also the option to pop up a ‘whiteboard’ which all participants are able to ‘interact’ with (ie write on, or draw inappropriate pictures - thanks teens!!) so you may choose not to use that depending on your group!!

I actually quite enjoyed delivering material virtually.. its NOT the same, but once your group start feeling comfortable with how to utilise their mics, it was lovely to hear from students who would usually be silent during in-person sessions - almost like the screen anonymity allowed them enough confidence to contribute.
Good luck with it!! I’m sure the first one will feel daunting but I promise it gets easier with practise!

(Oh! And Kahoot! Brilliantly popular with the littles and not so littles!)

Kevin Stratvert on YouTube is great. I've learned lots from his videos.

For interactive quizzes, look at Kahoot. It is much easier to use than PowerPoint and designed for this kind of teaching. You build a quiz and give the students the website code and they can log on and compete etc.

Also, zoom is much easier and more reliable than Teams if that is an option. You would need the paid version.
